Ndjamena endures one of the hottest climates on earth, with scorching temperatures that regularly exceed 40°C during the dry months.

Rain arrives abruptly between June and September, transforming dust into mud but doing little to cool the relentless heat.

Temperatures range from around 15°C on winter nights to a blistering 47°C in the pre-monsoon crucible of April and May.

The Harmattan wind sweeps down from the Sahara during winter months, coating everything in fine dust and drying out skin within hours.

Light-colored, loose cotton becomes less a fashion choice and more a survival strategy in a city where shade is currency.

☀️
Dry Season
October–May
  • Long-sleeved cotton shirts in light colors
  • Wide-brimmed hat or wrapped headscarf
  • Sunglasses rated for intense UV exposure
  • Leather sandals that handle dust and heat
  • Lightweight scarf for Harmattan dust protection
🌧️
Wet Season
June–September
  • Quick-dry synthetic shirts and trousers
  • Waterproof sandals or rubber-soled shoes
  • Compact rain jacket for sudden downpours
  • Baseball cap that dries faster than fabric hats
  • Extra changes of socks in a waterproof pouch

Ndjamena follows a two-season pattern rather than four: an extended furnace of a dry season and a brief wet period that adds humidity to the heat without offering much relief.
